What is Email Privacy and How can be Secure

Email Privacy

Email security is the way by which we can safe guard our communications through electronic means (email) more safer and secure. As an end user, we don't want anybody to interrupt and read our personal emails or to track our internet activity.

Email privacy is the term which deals with the unauthorized access and usage of our email communications without our consent, It can be done during transit or even in storage.

Why Privacy is Important?

We have some reasons to keep our privacy high.

1. We don't want ,others to know what we are doing in internet.

2. Our Personal documents must be personal(always!).

3. Privacy help us to maintain our individuality in cyberspace.

A Serious Threat to India
The initial round of Snowden disclosures had given the extent of spying that NSA was carrying out in India. According to The Hindu report by Glen Greenwald and Shobhan Saxena (Sepetmber23, 2013) in March 2013, the NSA “collected 6.3 billion pieces of information from the Internet network” and “6.2 billion pieces of information from the country’s telephone networks”. Even then, people were interested to know how was it possible for NSA to have secured such a large volume of data from India's telecom and internet network? Though foreign telecom companies – Verizon, AT&T and Vodafone -- are undoubtedly involved (Home Ministry reports), that alone is not sufficient to explain the huge amount of data that NSA is syphoning off from the Indian network.

Stats

A stunning Federal Security Services (FSB) report on the nearly two million highly classified top-secret documents obtained from the United States Department of Defense (DOD) run National Security Agency-Central Security Service (NSA/CSS) by the American ex-patriot Edward Snowden states that this information is providing “incontrovertible proof” that an “alien/extraterrestrial intelligence agenda” is driving US domestic and international policy, and has been doing so since at least 1945.

US intelligence chiefs have confirmed that the National Security Agency has used a "back door" in surveillance law to perform warrantless searches on Americans’ communications.

How can be Secure?
We recommend you to use Proton Mail for your email Communications

Why ProtonMail?
1. No advertisers.
2. No governments.
3. No third parties.
4. Expiring Emails.
5. Anonymity.
6. Swiss Security.

Security Features

1.Swiss Based (Incorporated in Switzerland)
All user data is protected by the Swiss Federal Data Protection Act (DPA) and the Swiss Federal Data Protection Ordinance (DPO) which offers some of the strongest privacy protection in the world for both individuals and entities. Only a court order from the Cantonal Court of Geneva or the Swiss Federal Supreme Court can compel us to release the extremely limited user information,US Laws are not valid in Swiss.

2. Hardware Level Security
We have invested heavily in owning and controlling our own server hardware at several locations within Switzerland. They are colocated in some of the same secured and guarded datacenters used by Switzerland's famed private banks. This provides an extra layer of protection by ensuring that even your encrypted data is not easily accessible to any third parties.

3. Zero Access to User Data
ProtonMail's segregated authentication and decryption system means logging into a ProtonMail account that requires two passwords. The first password is used to authenticate the user and retrieve the correct account. After that, encrypted data is sent to the user. The second password is a decryption password which is never sent to us. It is used to decrypt data on your device so ProtonMail do not have access to the decrypted data, or the decryption password. For this reason, ProtonMail are also unable to do password recovery. If you forget your decryption password, ProtonMail cannot recover your data.

4. Anonymous
Unlike competing services, ProtonMail do not save any tracking information. ProtonMail do not record metadata such as the IP addresses used to log into accounts. ProtonMail also have no way to scan encrypted messages to serve targeted advertisements. To protect user privacy, ProtonMail does not require any personally identifiable information to register.

5. Self Destructing Messages
You can set an optional expiration time on ProtonMail's encrypted emails, so they will be automatically deleted from the recipient's inbox once they have expired. This works for both emails sent to other ProtonMail users, and encrypted emails sent to outside email addresses.

6. Securely communicate with other email providers
ProtonMail support sending encrypted communication to non-ProtonMail users via symmetric encryption. When you send an encrypted message to a non-ProtonMail user, they receive a link which loads the encrypted message onto their browser, which they can decrypt using a passphrase that you have shared with them. You can also send unencrypted messages to Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook and others, just like regular email.
